Support for mental health in Essex

Local organisations

AARCA (Assisting Adult Recovery from Childhood Abuse) offers a non-judgemental recovery and self help service in Colchester for adult survivors of child abuse.

ACL (Adult Community Learning) offers courses in health and wellbeing including managing anxiety, mindfulness and building self confidence.  they also run a mental health recovery programme in various locations across Essex.

The Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing team at Essex County Council offers help and advice for people with low level mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

Basildon Eating Disorders And Mental Health Support (BEAMS) isa voluntary service offering help, support, and information on eating disorders.

Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Service (EWMHS) caters for young people in Essex up to the age of 18, or up to 25 with special educational needs.

Essex Partnership University Trust (EPUT) provide a wide range of treatment and support to young people, adults and older people experiencing mental illness both as inpatients and within the community.

Essex Connects can help locate local clubs, groups and support services in your area.  It also provides links to Connect Well and Community 360 (Colchester and Tendring), both online tools that can help people find the information they need.

Friends in Need is a way for people affected by depression to meet online and in their local area. It's free to join and a great way to share support.

Futures in Mind offers inclusive support for people suffering from substance or alcohol misuse and mental ill health.  

HeadsUp provides support, advice and mentoring to people with common mental health problems to help them get back into the workplace after a period of unemployment.

Healthwatch Essex has an Information Service that you can call for advice. Tamsin, a Mental Health Ambassador reflects on her struggle with her own mental health in her blog.
